Common terms used on this wiki that have a precise meaning are listed below. Please be careful to use the correct terminology when writing about these topics to avoid confusion.
Worlds/Dimensions
World: An individual Minecraft save file. The server has only 1 active at a time.
Dimension: A group of chunks in the world. All worlds have multiple dimensions, such as the Overworld, Nether, and End. They are numbered as DIM<number>, where number can be positive or negative.
Surface Dimension: Dimensions with materials and properties similar to the Overworld, including the Overworld itself. The sky often has a colour gradient, a sun, and a moon. There is typically no world ceiling, and resources are often like the Overworld. Biomes and terrain shape may or may not be similar.
Overworld: DIM0, the dimension where player spawn points are located by default. The main surface dimension.
Nether: DIM-1, the dimension where players are transported when entering a Nether Portal from any dimension except the Nether itself.
The End: DIM1, the dimension where players are transported when entering an End Portal from any dimension except The End itself.
