There are many different approaches to ore processing, each with its own benefits, drawbacks, and prerequisites.
First Stage Processing
No Special Processing
Just placing ores directly into a furnace or equivalent will yield 1 ingot per ore for most ores, with no additional bonus.
AE2 Grindstone
The Grindstone is a way of increasing ore returns with minimal prerequisites. No power or other machines are required, however it must be manually operated.
For Copper Ore, Gold Ore, Iron Ore, Tin Ore, Lead Ore, Silver Ore, Nickel Ore, Platinum Ore, Aluminium Ore, Nether Quartz Ore, and Certus Quartz Ore, the Grindstone will output 1 dust, plus a second dust with 90% probability.
